Just a 20 minute drive away from Moortown Lodge, the Bournemouth Air Festival, 28th-31st August, has become one of the biggest and best seaside airshows in the UK since it started in 2008 – and it’s free!

Golfing near Ringwood in August

We’re fortunate enough here at Moortown Lodge to be within easy reach of some really fantastic golf courses. Just a ten minute drive down the road from us you’ll find Moors Valley Golf Club, an 18-hole course which extends along the valley of the Moors. There is also a four-hole short course.

Just under a 15 minute drive away from Moortown Lodge in Ringwood, you’ll find what is essentially a 9-hole course but with different tees for the first and second 9 holes at Burley Golf Club.

Also less than a 15 minute drive away, Ferndown Golf Club is an attractive, classic heathland course,established in 1913 and ranked amongst the Worlds Top 1000 Golf Courses by Rolex.

New Forest Fairy Festival

The village of Burley is only a ten minute drive away from Moortown Lodge and has a long association with all things magical and mystical, particularly witches. Sybil Leek, a self-styled white witch, lived there in the 1950s and was often seen in the village before moving to the USA. Hence the Fairy Festival, on 16th-17th August, often attracts thousands of people, with fancy dress, horse and cart rides and even mediumship to enjoy.

August events at the National Motor Museum

Just over half an hour’s drive away across the idyllic New Forest in Beaulieu, the National Motor Museum has a range of events running throughout August, including children’s summer holiday activities, a Marie Curie cancer walk and the Simply Classics & Sports Car event.

Alpaca Open Day at Petlake Farm

A little over 15 minutes drive away, on 16th August, you can take an Alpaca for a walk at Petlake Farm, Ringwood Road, Bartley, SO40 7LA. Entry and parking are free.
