Don’t let a stressful run up to Christmas spoil the day itself. Taking a pre-Christmas break will give you the opportunity to stock up on last minute gifts at your own pace, while enjoying everything the New Forest has to offer. What’s more, you’ll be able to take advantage of our reduced Sunday to Thursday rates in the run up to Christmas, starting from just £75 per room (incl. breakfast and VAT). If you’ve got a dog to consider, we’re a dog friendly B&B. Let us know beforehand and we’ll do our best to accommodate, allowing for some crisp, winter dog walking in the Forest too.

The Furlong Christmas Market

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December you can enjoy watching the Ringwood  Christmas lights being switched on and there will be a festive artisan market packed with Christmas treats at the nearby Furlong shopping centre. Alongside a selection of handcrafted goodies and gifts, you’ll find Father Christmas, as well as a giant interactive snow globe experience.

Christmas shopping in Bournemouth

If you’ve got a fair bit of Christmas shopping to get through, Bournemouth is only around 20 minutes down the road by car, with an array of high street shops and boutiques, as well as some amazing eateries. Or choose Southampton’s West Quay, based just over half an hour’s drive away from Moortown Lodge and boasting a wide range of retailers, including John Lewis and IKEA.

Christmas Craft Market at Moors Valley

On Saturday 5th December, just a few minutes drive from Moortown Lodge, you’ll find Moors Valley’s Christmas Craft market, selling locally produced crafts, preserves and gifts.

Enjoy a range of locally produced food items, or buy them as Christmas gifts and stocking fillers. You’re likely to find a range of produce, made in Dorset and Hampshire, including homemade preserves and cupcakes, alongside other treasures such as jewellery, toys, baskets, greetings cards, glass coasters, artwork and more.

Christmas Workshops at Furzey Gardens

On 4th and 5th December, just a 20 minute drive away, Furzey Gardens are running workshops to design and make a festive door swag for your front door and table decorations. The cost of the workshop includes a hot drink, mince pie and entrance to Furzey Gardens, which people can explore after the event.

Christmas Paddle at New Forest Activities

New Forest Activities are running a Christmas Paddle event to meet Father Christmas, which can be enjoyed by adults and children alike!  The activity centre is based a little over 30 minutes drive away from Moortown Lodge, The event involves a 90 minute canoe trip along Beaulieu River with hot drinks and  mince pies on arrival as well as gifts for little ones. At the time of writing there are a few spaces left on Saturday 12th and 19th December.

Victorian Christmas at Beaulieu

Rediscover the charm of a traditional Christmas this winter. Victorian characters will share the secrets of ‘Christmas Past’ at Palace House, Beaulieu, transporting you back in time – complete with Victorian decorations and a full size sleigh. The event takes place from 19th December through to 3rd January and includes carol singing, festive games and the opportunity to marvel at one of the largest outdoor Christmas trees in the New Forest.

Eat, drink and relax 

The New Forest is home to some wonderful pubs and restaurants, not least Verveine, an award-winning fish restaurant half an hour’s drive away from Ringwood, in Milford on Sea. Closer to home you’ll find The Lantern Café in Ringwood (often described as offering one of the best lunches around) as well as some extremely good local Indian and Italian restaurants.
