Christmas can easily lose its meaning, when you’re caught in the thick of preparations. So why not relax and unwind with a stay at Moortown Lodge, from just £75 per standard room including VAT and breakfast, Sunday to Thursday (subject to availability). Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the forest, there’s no better place to feel the authentic spirit of Christmas. You can always slot in any vital shopping trips between wintry woodland walks, if need be. And if you want a little more action there’s plenty:

Christmas Wonderland at Paulton’s Park

Just a 20 minute drive away, visit Santa’s Christmas Winter Wonderland on selected dates throughout December at Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World. The peaceful Nativity scene is watched over by donkeys and Father Christmas’s tractor sleigh is parked outside the Farmhouse Grotto. Father Christmas himself will be waiting inside the Farmhouse Grotto to greet the children and give them a gift, from Saturday 6th to 24th December, on selected days.

Bournemouth Christmas Festival

Inspired by the “Weihnachtsmarkt” traditional German Markets, the Bournemouth Christmas Festival has been well established for six years now and is just a 20 minute drive away. Held in the heart of Bournemouth throughout December (apart from Christmas Day itself), this festive market will be beautifully dressed with Christmas lights and snowy decorations. It will feature authentic German cuisine with a traditional German charcoal BBQ Bratwurst House offering three types of German sausage, a roasted chestnuts costermonger, a flavoured coffee stall and a crepe stall.

Boxing Day Point-to-Point

Promoted as being the only authentic race of its kind in the country, the New Forest pony point-to-point is run according to the principles that founded the sport in the 18th century. The races are open only to New Forest ponies (although there are separate races for part-bred New Forest ponies). The point-to-point is an excellent demonstration of the New Forest pony’s all-round abilities and provides an opportunity for spectators to gather together and cheer on their favourites. A few rooms are still available on Christmas night, so why not enjoy a restful stay followed by a hearty breakfast beforehand.
