With the new season coming, March is a great time for a golf break and Moortown Lodge is near to some of the country’s top golf courses. Surrounded by stunning scenery the area’s golf courses are ideal for both seasoned golfers and beginners alike. Whether you are looking for 9- hole or 18-hole courses there are a variety on offer with varying difficulty. Golf in the New Forest and surrounding areas accommodates men, women, families and junior players. For those playing for the first time or wanting to improve their technique, tuition is available from PGA qualified officials.

Moors Valley Golf Course

Just a ten minute drive away from our Ringwood B&B, Moors Valley is an 18-hole course which extends along the valley of the Moors River. It covers a total of 6337 yards and includes four par 5s, ten par 4s and four par 3s. As well as the 18-hole course there is a four-hole short course with holes ranging from 56 to 80 yards. Other practice facilities include practice nets, chipping and putting greens. Everyone is welcome to play on the Moors Valley golf course and to join the Moors Valley Golf Club.

Burley Golf Club

Just under a 15 minute drive away from Moortown Lodge in Ringwood, you’ll find Burley Golf Club. Founded in 1905, this is a typical heathland course that has remained almost unchanged in its 100 year existence. The course measures 6151 yards, par 71 for men, and 5347 yards, par 70 for ladies and represents an interesting challenge for golfers of all standards. It is essentially a 9-hole course but with different tees for the first and second 9 holes. Visitors are always welcome and are free to enjoy the bar and catering facilities in the Clubhouse. It is advisable to check availability with the Secretary’s office.

Ferndown Golf Club

Under 15 minutes drive away, Ferndown is an attractive, classic heathland course that winds its way through the pines and rhododendrons on a soft turf that provides easy walking. The Club, established in 1913, is ranked amongst the Worlds Top 1000 Golf Courses by Rolex. It has been host to The Hennessy Cognac Cup (1982 and 1984) a team event featuring leading players from the European Tour. The European Ladies Championship was played here in 1988 and the British Ladies Open in 1989. More recently Ferndown has been the venue for the R&A Regional ‘Open’ Qualifier 2008 – 2012. Set in stunning heathland countryside this beautiful 27-hole golf layout is a test for any golfer. Visitors are welcome, with availability on the ‘Presidents’ 9-hole at the weekend.

Bramshaw Golf Club

A little over 15 minutes drive away, this club in Brook, Lyndhurst is the oldest in Hampshire. It has two excellent and contrasting 18-hole courses. Built in 1970, the first class Manor Course is gently undulating, with excellent fairways that demand accurate tee and good approach shots. Built in 1880, the Forest Course with its open aspects and rolling heathland is in compete contrast to the Manor Course. The ever-changing scenery of humps, hollows and meandering streams test golfing skills and judgement within an idyllic setting.

New Forest Golf Club

Just a 20 minute drive away from Moortown Lodge, this club is located near the village of Lyndhurst and has been in existence since 1888 when villagers were granted permission from the Commissioners of Woods and Forests to play golf on open heathland. It is a very picturesque course situated in the heart of the New Forest, just off the A35 and a short drive from the M27 and M3. Described as one of the “gems of the New Forest”, the course offers some of the finest greens at golf courses in Hampshire or Dorset.

Remedy Oak

Just a 20 minute drive away, near Horton in Dorset, this classic championship golf course nestles within 256 acres of ancient woodland with conditions as close to perfect as they could be all year round. Non-members can come and play Remedy Oak. There are limited tee times available between 11.30am & 12.30pm including weekends. On your arrival at the gates simply let Reception know your tee time and you will be welcomed through and met by one of the front of house team who will look after your group for the day.

Parkstone Golf Club

A 25 minute drive away, Parkstone is one of the best known and finest courses on the South Coast and ranked in the top 120 golf courses in the British Isles by Golf Monthly magazine. It’s a beautiful and mature heathland course with lakes, standings of mature pines and a wide variety of wildlife together with panoramic views over Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island and the coastal downs of the Isle of Purbeck. Visitors are welcome to play at Parkstone but should first telephone the Club on 01202 707138 and press option 2 or 3 to reserve a starting time. All visitors should have a handicap certificate from their home club and are asked to follow the Club’s Dress Code.
